Safety Vests For Visibility And Protection

By Ina Hunt

The number one concern for many occupations and volunteer work is safety. Purchasing and utilizing safety vests is a very inexpensive and effective methods of remaining injury free during the course of many types of employment and activities which may involve moving equipment or vehicles, heavy traffic or visibility issues. Buying these for personnel will also keep insurance premiums low and employees working on the job at hand.

In June 1999, the requirements and standards of this feature were put in place by the International Safety Equipment Association. The specifics of wearing the garment were laid out for various jobs, scenarios and situations.

The helpful article makes volunteers and employees much more visible to other staff, high traffic and moving machinery. The added reflective bands can help give extra visibility during bright days and dark nights when visibility is impaired or nonexistent. Workers can also be easily identified as those in charge or assisting - for example, crowd control workers at a concert will be easily recognized by the attendees as someone in authority. School patrols will be obeyed much quicker and more easily if they wear an identifying vest.

Individuals who would appreciate having these at their disposal include airline employees, mechanics, school patrols, road workers, construction employees, security guards, warehouse staff, crowd control workers, and traffic management personnel. Many individuals also keep a vest or two in the trunk of their cars for personal reasons. They are great to have on hand if they are in a situation where they must change a flat tire on a freeway or even help direct traffic in the case of an accident.

Yellow and orange are the most common colors that are used in these articles. Blue and red garments are also available for high visibility. The articles are made of a flame-resistant, very lightweight material that is easy and comfortable to wear. Inscriptions, company names and logos can be added to help identify different groups when more than one business or organization is wearing them in the same location.

There are other styles of these available, the most common being the tee shirt style which does not require the wearing of anything underneath. It is even more effective as the wearers can be seen more effectively from side views also. Swatches or bands of this type of fabric can also be purchased to tie onto strollers, light moving equipment or bicycles.

Uniform and hardware stores, as well as building supply outlets, will be able to supply businesses and individuals with these items. They can also be found online on many industrial supply websites. Choose the vest that best fits the use and the type of individuals who will be wearing it.

Just the knowledge that employees or family members are wearing these items will give managers and families assurance and great peace of mind. The individuals will be much more visible to oncoming or hidden traffic, other people, and will also help identify them as a group with a specific mission or duty.
