A Step By Step Guide On How To Draw Scenery

By Lisa Perry

Drawing scenery is extremely interesting because it would enable one to capture on canvas what normally people would need a camera to capture. Of course in order for one to create something beautiful there are actually some steps to do so. This guide will enable one to learn how to draw scenery the proper way.

First of all, one has to know the focus point of his scenery or the center point. For those who do not know what this is, this is basically the point of origin of the scene that one is going to sketch. One will also be basing all of the things that he will put in the drawing on this point of origin.

Now after one has already figured out what the focus point of his sketch is, then it would be best to put a dot on where the focus point is. Once one has drawn the little dot, then he should draw some lines that would emit from this point so that he knows where to place structures. Now one must remember to make sure the lines are all straight so that he will be able to properly place things in the drawing.

After that has been done already, then one must draw next the horizon line. Now if one is not familiar with what this horizon line is, basically it is a horizontal line that would separate the land and the sky. Now this is drawn to make sure that one will have a clearer picture as to where he would draw some of the structures that would seem further away.

From there, one may already start adding things like trees, caves, or buildings, depending on what he wants to sketch. Now first of all, one has to remember that the focus point is the point of origin meaning that the view of the artist would be directed at that point. So everything that he would draw would have to be small if it is near the focus point. Basically his figures and structures would have to shrink the closer he gets to the point of origin.

So if the structures that are nearer to the corners are zoomed in, then the ones nearer to the focus point are the structures that are far from the artist. With this in mind, it is possible to draw in some sort of angle. So whenever one would sketch, scenery, he must take note of these principles.

Of course if one would want, then he may also add some shading to his drawing. Now if one would want to do so, then the trick here is to know where the light is coming from in the picture. Once one has already done that, he has to then shade the part that the light is not shining to.

So for the beginner artists out there, this is a very systematic way of making scenery. For those who would want to create portraits, these are actually amazing techniques on how to do so. Remember to always start with the rough draft then fill in the details later.
