Elvis Presley Books Make An Excellent Read

By Marie Jackson

Over the years many Elvis Presley books have been written and published. These record the life and career of the most successful male recording artist in music history. A lot of these publications have come from those closest to the man himself including colleagues, friends, fellow musicians and relatives.

A large number of these books have been unauthorized biographies and subject to question. Many of the publications since his untimely death in 1977 are not necessarily factual and merely the opinions of the author. It has been well reported in fact that many of these accounts of his career and personal life are fictitious.

A number of books have also been published that have been fully authorized by Elvis himself or his family. Some of his closest and most loyal employees that were with him from the outset have put their memories and recollections onto print. Presley's ex wife, daughter and other relatives have also in the subsequent years since his passing, made public private documents and pictures from the family archives.

Other books of some interest are those that focus purely on his music, film and live shows. Many of these publications are very detailed with dates and times of studio sessions and even the band members involved on certain tracks recorded. A large number of his musical associates and personal staff have given interviews and recollections of life working with Elvis.

As well as being a recording artist and live performer, Presley was a prolific actor during the sixties. Although many of these movies were not well received by the public there is some interesting reading to be found featuring behind the scenes anecdotes from cast and crew and also photos shot during the filming. It is well known that Elvis did not relish the thought of acting and some of his own stories regarding this can also be found.

Following his call to serve the United States army and relocate to Germany, Presley's life became even more of a roller coaster. A time of mixed feelings with many things happening in his personal life much has been written about these few years. The death of his beloved mother, the belief that his career as a singer was over and meeting the future Mrs. Presley there was plenty to write about. Many of his friends from home also served at the same time as him and have put their thoughts and recollections on paper.

Many people regard the stories and account of the later years the most interesting material to read. Spending many months at a time in Vegas, sometimes performing two shows per day to sell out audiences there are many stories to be told. Mixing with fellow superstars also working in the town at the time, a lot of these tales and anecdotes have been published. During these years the stars health started to deteriorate and he became more involved in religion and in particular gospel music and there are some fascinating copies in print of Presley's own written comments.

Whether a fan of the man himself or just a casual reader interested in music or American history, many of these are books are well worth a read. From magazines to volumes running into thousands of pages, there have been literally millions of words printed about the king. These can be found in bookstores, online retailers and libraries all over the world.
