Classic And Interesting Alien Encounter Novel

By Brian Robinson

Novels based on alien invasion are centered on people. An alien encounter novel featuring wild animals or birds fighting each other is a rare find. The plot is about retaliatory attacks, astronauts who encountered aliens and surprise attacks from unknown forces. The motive of the attack is usually to enslave. These novels feature heroes and heroines tasked with rescuing or protecting humanity.

Scott Orson is the famed author behind Enders Game. This title was released in 1985 when very little was known to the masses about life beyond our planet. It tells the tale of children studying at a space station where they are attacked. The violent nature of this narrative could be the reason it has won the hearts of many. It is a multiple award winner with Hugo and Nebula as some of the awards already bagged.

The release of Starship Trooper in 1959 was a response to criticism directed towards the author because of his views on government nuclear program. It was also written in between other books at the height of nuclear dialogue in the world. Heinlein managed to keep away attacks because of his creative and classic story.

Childhood Ends is said to have emanated from events in London during the Second World War where blimps dominated the London skies. It tells a story of friendly invasion where some Overlords took over the world, resolved all conflicts and established a single government. They fell out with humanity because of operating from their space ships and failing to disclose their origin.

The War of Worlds is considered a forerunner to all other novels written in this category. It was in fact sometimes classified as scientific romance. The author finds it fun to obliterate his neighborhood and in fact succeeds. He describes the killing to a friend as eccentric and painful. The book came out in 1898 and continues to baffle readers especially in the way an entire neighborhood is destroyed.

The Mote in Gods Eye is a bit futuristic despite being released in 1974. This book is set in 3016, an era ruled by The Second Empire of Man. Man uses Anderson Drive, a supersonic ship to operate from thousands of stars. It is all calm with no worry about extra-terrestrial life until a ship on mission comes back with the body of a dead alien. This is the beginning of an interesting expedition that is fascinating to readers.

Spin is an endearing sci-fi marvel. Its incorporation of the latest scientific discoveries explains why the book is loved. It opens with the scene of a boy watching in fascination as a star passes by. Man has conquered the moon and sun but tides remain a mystery. Wilson Robert delivers the story with incredible ingenuity in this 2006 release.

1951 saw the release of The Day of Triffids by John Wyndham. This title has a special place among post-apocalypse books. The world is blinded by a comet shower leaving only a few people to restore order. As they battle with blindness, they have to fight off carnivorous weeds that are also mobile.
